Spam is overwhelming the Internet
with voluminous copies of the same unwanted
message in an attempt to force unsolicited
email on people who would not choose to
receive it. The bulk of this spam is from
commercial advertising, often for dubious
products, get-rich-quick schemes, and other
off the wall services we neither want,
need, or asked for.
Email spam targets individual
users with direct bulk email sofwear or
from online services that provide bulk
email. Email spam lists are created by
scanning message board and guest book
postings, stealing Internet mailing lists,
or searching the Web for addresses right
off your web site with a myriad of software
products available to do this. Email spams
typically cost users (you and me) money
out-of-pocket to receive. Many people -
anyone with phone service who can read or
receive their mail while the meter is
running is directly paying for garbage they
don't want.
One particularly nasty variant of
email spam is sending spam to mailing lists
(public or private email discussion
forums.) Because many mailing lists limit
activity to their subscribers, spammers
will use automated tools to subscribe to as
many mailing lists as possible, so that
they can grab the lists of addresses, or
use the mailing list as a direct target for
their attacks.
I have researched some of the more
effective anti - spam softwear on the Net
and found some really good packages that
will do a good job of keeping your email
box free of the garbage we all receive
these days... check them out... they can do
the job for a very reasonable cost. Based
on ease of use, options offered, and cost,
I have rated the software with a 4 star (the best) to
a 1 star (a
good product for what it was designed to
do, but not nearly effective as the 2, 3 or
4 star products).
