I first thought of welding the threaded screw to the shank but that would make it difficult to get the correct placement and create a lot of extra finishing work to hide the weld. So I drilled and taped the threads instead. I used a drill press and "V" block to steady the bolt. First drilled a small pilot hole then again with a bit just under what is need and finished with the proper size for the thread size I want to use.
