Another common type of repair done in the "old days". The frame was notched out so the mending plate would be flush with the surface of the frame. This kind of repair is not strong and will not last long. In fact, it actually weakens the frame by removing wood and boring holes. Also note the holes caused by the upholstery tacks that were not on the tack rail. There were a few hundred of these holes that all were filled. This was done by a lazy upholster who "doubled covered" over the existing fabric. |
