The frame almost fell apart by itself. About half the dowels were broken.

Tip: When replacing broken dowels on curved sections of frame, first cut off any stub the remains. This will make it easier to drill out the rest of the broken dowel. Also, the proper angle to drill out the old dowel on almost any joint will be at a 90 degree angle to the flat surface of the joint.
