I like
using a glaze of van dyke brown with a little red. It makes
a richer color than the traditional burnt umber. There are
thousands of "cherry" pieces in "antique" shops that are
really made with popular and finished with a burnt umber
glaze. A good glaze job has no brush marks and subtle
highlights.
